The European Spine Phantom has been THE standard for quality control, accuracy and reproducibility measurements in spinal bone mineral densitometry (BMD) for decades now.
The almost anthropomorphic design by its outer dimensions along with internal lumbar vertebrae allow to perform tests in accordance with standard patient protocols in both DXA and QCT.

The phantom body consists of water-equivalent resin, and three inserts contain varying amounts of calcium hydroxyapatite (HA) to cover the full physiological range of spongious and cortical bone densities for all age groups.

 

The phantom verifies reproducibility and accuracy of the following quantities:

  • bone mineral content (BMC) in g for DXA
  • bone mineral area density (BMD) in g/cm2 for DXA
  • projected area (A) in cm2 for DXA
  • trabecular and cortical bone mineral density in g/cm3 for QCT
  • cortical thickness in mm for QCT
  • positioning accuracy in QCT.
