The phantom is suitable for the performance evaluation of X-ray bone densitometers. The peripheral bone type PH phantom is designed according to the Japanese Industrial Standard JIS Z 4930*.

It includes a soft tissue-equivalent housing with a density of about 1.07 g/cm³ and three exchangeable bone-equivalent inserts (PH-1, PH-2 and PH-3) with a specified area BMD of 0.20 ± 0.01 g/cm², 0.40 ± 0.01 g/cm², and 0.60 ± 0.01 g/cm², respectively.
